German twin sisters have died on the same day at the same nursing home, aged 83.

Anna and Maria Bachmaier were born on June 4, 1930 and died at their nursing home on August 10.

Anna died at 5am  from liver cancer. Their nephew Peter Machmaier said Maria cried out in her sleep when her sister died, then passed away hours later, without ever waking up to learn of Anna's death.
"It is just unbelievable," Mr Machamair said. "They couldn’t survive without each other. My whole life I saw how they thought and felt like identical twins."
Neither woman ever married or had children, and Maria left their village of Steinhoring to become a nurse in Munich. However, she later returned to the town and lived with her sister after retiring.
